On Sept. 13, the International Coastal Cleanup will return to Great Salt Lake's southern shores, helping to remove trash from the critical wildlife area.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, participants of this relay course will explore Salt Lake Valley waterways through biking, running, and non-motorized boating.

Attend the opening of the 12th Alfred Lanbourne Arts Program gallery 
On Sept. 5, the Alfred Lambourne Arts Program will unveil its new gallery with an event that begins at 5 p.m. According to Friends of Great Salt Lake, the exhibition displays "artistic representations" of the lake through visual and literary arts, movement and sound.

Have a preschool student? Attend "Bizzy, Buzzy Bugs" at the Bear River Bird Refuge
The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge hosts a series of educational events each year, and on Sept. 24, the preschool program will explore "Bizzy, Buzzy Bugs." Students aged three to five and their adults will be welcomed to engage in stories, crafts and games designed to educate.

Attend "Creature Crawl"
The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is slated to host a "Creature Crawl" event on Oct. 11, where participants can experience Halloween and wildlife-related activities.

The Jordan River Commission is hosting a series of clean up events, dubbed #LoveYourWatershed. 

Opportunities are planned for the second Saturday of each month from July until Nov.

Situated at the Dumke Arts Plaza in downtown Ogden, "This was water" provides a sensory experience surrounding five statues modeled after gypsum crystals. 

It's on display until April 2026.

Tune into Great Salt Lake Audubon's September Birds 'n Bites

Did you know? Great Salt Lake is home to the state's largest American White Pelican breeding colony — a fascinating species that is difficult to study. 

On Sept. 16 at 7 p.m., Audubon will be joined by Aimee Van Tatenhove, a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell, who earned a Ph.D studying the species at Utah State University.

Experience 'The Great Salt Lake: An Uplifting Artistic Oasis' 

Featuring collaborative efforts to support Salt Lake County's namesake body of water, the exhibit "emphasizes the importance and impact of the lake on our local community," according to Wake the Great Salt Lake.

The display features works from the Salt Lake County Visual Art Collection. It will be on display until Dec. 15, 2025 at the Salt Lake County Government Center.

Share stories of the salty waters with Great Salt Lake Hopeline all year

By calling 979-GSL-HOPE (979-475-4673) or visiting an upcycled phone booth, community members can share their stories and interact with the sounds of Great Salt Lake. 

According to Wake the Great Salt Lake, collected voicemails will be used for future projects — the hotline aims to start lake-focused dialogue and spark hope for the struggling body of water.

Attend "Eb & Flo" in October
Presented by Plan-B Theatre, "Eb & Flo" is a play featuring a "fantastic" flamingo and a "sensible" seagull. Through their story, they explore the ways small actions can have big effects on Great Salt Lake. 

This show will be presented in Studio Theatre at The Rose on Oct. 4, 11 and 18 at 1 p.m. Tickets are free but required.
