Take part in a community forum on faith and stewardship on Oct. 15 


The next installment of Grow the Flow's Great Salt Lake Community Forum will highlight the role that faith plays. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., hear from Brigham Young University Professors Ben Abbott and George Handley, as well as Jenica Sedgwick, the sustainability manager for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. =

Join Plan-B Theatre for 'Just Add Water'

Just Add Water is a dramedy based around Great Salt Lake. After the lake takes human form, she ventures into the city to uncover what’s happening to her. 

This production will run from Oct. 2-19.

Free film screening and community conversation about Great Salt Lake

Watch the film by Brolly Arts called Illusion of Abundance, which blends dance, prose and Indigenous voices to explore climate, culture, and the future of the lake. Followed by a panel discussion of artists, experts and activists. Oct. 1, 6:30-8 p.m. in Salt Lake City.

The film will also be screened in Logan on Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. Tickets aren't required. It will take place at the Utah State University's Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. 

Attend "Eb & Flo" in October


Presented by Plan-B Theatre, "Eb & Flo" is a play featuring a "fantastic" flamingo and a "sensible" seagull. Through their story, they explore the ways small actions can have big effects on Great Salt Lake. 

This show will be presented in Studio Theatre at The Rose on Oct. 4, 11 and 18 at 1 p.m. Tickets are free but required.

Attend "Creature Crawl" at The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge


 "Creature Crawl," taking place on Oct. 11, will invite participants to experience Halloween and wildlife-related activities. 

Per the event page, events are suitable for all ages. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite animal.

Explore a sound-art project in Liberty Park beginning Oct. 13


Multi-disciplinary artist Stefan Lesueur's contribution to Wake the Great Salt Lake is set to open in Liberty Park. The piece is set to feature sounds recorded from streams and stories from community members.

Go "Behind the Gates" at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge


In honor of National Wildlife Refuge Week, the refuge will be opening its D-Line Canal Road to the public on Oct. 18. During the event, members of the public will get a special experience in an area that is usually open.

Tune into the October edition of Great Salt Lake Audubon's 'Birds 'n Bites'


On Oct. 23, Wildlife Photographer Linda Dalton Walker will showcase the outcome of her two-year journey documenting the rivers that flow into Great Salt Lake. This event will be in-person at the Tracy Aviary Chase Mill but Audubon says it will be recorded.

Have a preschool-age child? Join Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge for "Going Batty"


The next edition of the refuge's preschool program highlights bats, just in time for Halloween. Geared toward children aged three to five and their adults, students will be able to explore through activities, stories and crafts.

Participate in a community planting day at the Wuda Ogwa Restoration Site 

The Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation is inviting volunteers to help plant approximately 50,000 native plants at the site of the Bear River Massacre on Nov. 7 and 8.

Featuring author Trish O'Kane, the Nov. 14th event will highlight stories of nature, activism and community. 

Westminster University's Jewett Center for the Performing Arts will host the event. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the event beginning at 6 p.m.

#LoveYourWatershed with Jordan River Commission


The Jordan River Commission is hosting a series of clean up events, dubbed #LoveYourWatershed. 

Opportunities are planned for the second Saturday of each month from July until Nov.

Visit 'This was water" 

Situated at the Dumke Arts Plaza in downtown Ogden, "This was water" provides a sensory experience surrounding five statues modeled after gypsum crystals. 

It's on display until April 2026.

Experience 'The Great Salt Lake: An Uplifting Artistic Oasis' 

Featuring collaborative efforts to support Salt Lake County's namesake body of water, the exhibit "emphasizes the importance and impact of the lake on our local community," according to Wake the Great Salt Lake.

The display features works from the Salt Lake County Visual Art Collection. It will be on display until Dec. 15, 2025 at the Salt Lake County Government Center.

Share stories of the salty waters with Great Salt Lake Hopeline all year

By calling 979-GSL-HOPE (979-475-4673) or visiting an upcycled phone booth, community members can share their stories and interact with the sounds of Great Salt Lake. 

According to Wake the Great Salt Lake, collected voicemails will be used for future projects — the hotline aims to start lake-focused dialogue and spark hope for the struggling body of water.
