Participate in a Snowy Plover survey
A Weber State University professor has teamed up with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and other agencies to lead a survey of Great Salt Lake's Snowy Plover population. The team is looking for trained volunteers to work in designated plots, recording observations of the bird species, between May 15 and June 15. Send an email to

Take in the imagery and poetry featured in 'On Behalf of Wings'
Wildlife Photographer Linda Dalton Walker and Lake-Facing Poet Nan Seymour have teamed up to present a thought-provoking exhibition at The City Library in downtown Salt Lake City. Share stories of the salty waters with Great Salt Lake Hopeline all year
By calling 979-GSL-HOPE (979-475-4673) or visiting an upcycled phone booth, community members can share their stories and interact with the sounds of Great Salt Lake. According to Wake the Great Salt Lake, collected voicemails will be used for future projects — the hotline aims to start lake-focused dialogue and spark hope for the struggling body of water. Participate in Seven Canyons Trust's Range 2 River Relay

Take a self-guided tour of the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve
The preserve covers 4,400 acres of wetland and upland habitat just outside of Layton. According to its website, some of the largest wildlife gatherings to be recorded have been viewed from the visitor center. The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve invites the public to download an audio tour to guide their visits. Current operating hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Learn more here.
