In partnership with Great Salt Lake Collaborative, the Salt Lake Tribune is working to gather stories of how community members have experienced the Jordan River.
Attend People's Great Salt Lake Summit, Aug. 23
Hear from experts, policy makers and community leaders in morning plenary sessions. Attend breakout sessions on: toxic dust science, wetlands and wildlife, the lake’s economic stakes, or crafting a movement-ready “toxic dust bowl” pitch.

Attend "Creature Crawl"
The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is slated to host a "Creature Crawl" event on Oct. 11, where participants can experience Halloween and wildlife-related activities.
Per the event page, events are suitable for all ages. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite animal.
Give feedback that could shape the state's 2026 water plan
The state is slated to update it's plans for managing, using and protecting water in 2026. It is inviting citizens to attend their local water meeting, referred to as a Water Talk, to share ideas.

A Selenium Story explores the sources and impacts of contaminants in Great Salt Lake through an interactive map.

Call for participants for study on perceptions of GSL
This research project will look at how people involved in science, management, conservation or advocacy efforts talk about their perceptions of the Great Salt Lake.

The Jordan River Commission is hosting a series of clean up events, dubbed #LoveYourWatershed.
Opportunities are planned for the second Saturday of each month from July until Nov.

Attend the opening of the 12th Alfred Lanbourne Arts Program gallery
On Sept. 5, the Alfred Lambourne Arts Program will unveil its new gallery with an event that begins at 5 p.m. According to Friends of Great Salt Lake, the exhibition displays "artistic representations" of the lake through visual and literary arts, movement and sound.
Visit "This was water"
Situated at the Dumke Arts Plaza in downtown Ogden, "This was water" provides a sensory experience surrounding five statues modeled after gypsum crystals.
It's on display until April 2026.

Experience 'The Great Salt Lake: An Uplifting Artistic Oasis'
Featuring collaborative efforts to support Salt Lake County's namesake body of water, the exhibit "emphasizes the importance and impact of the lake on our local community," according to Wake the Great Salt Lake.
The display features works from the Salt Lake County Visual Art Collection. It will be on display until Dec. 15, 2025 at the Salt Lake County Government Center.
Share stories of the salty waters with Great Salt Lake Hopeline all year
By calling 979-GSL-HOPE (979-475-4673) or visiting an upcycled phone booth, community members can share their stories and interact with the sounds of Great Salt Lake.
According to Wake the Great Salt Lake, collected voicemails will be used for future projects — the hotline aims to start lake-focused dialogue and spark hope for the struggling body of water.
Take a field trip with Great Salt Lake Audubon
Great Salt Lake Audubon hosts field trips, presenting opportunities to take in the beautiful landscapes and diverse wildlife surrounding Great Salt Lake!

Take a sunset walk with state park rangers
While walking along the beaches of the lake with Great Salt Lake State Park rangers, you'll be treated to facts about the natural and cultural history of the area and stunning views of the lake and its wildlife.

Participate in Seven Canyons Trust's Range 2 River Relay
On Saturday, Sept. 20, participants of this relay course will explore Salt Lake Valley waterways through biking, running, and non-motorized boating.

Attend "Eb & Flo" in October
Presented by Plan-B Theatre, "Eb & Flo" is a play featuring a "fantastic" flamingo and a "sensible" seagull. Through their story, they explore the ways small actions can have big effects on Great Salt Lake.
This show will be presented in Studio Theatre at The Rose on Oct. 4, 11 and 18 at 1 p.m. Tickets are free but required.
