Tune in to Birds 'n Bites on March 18

Enjoy a landscape-minded performance by the Fry Street Quartet on March 19
Utah State University's Fry Street Quartet is the only endowed university quartet in the state, and they'll be performing "Bridging Worlds: Chamber Music for a Changing Planet" at O.C. Tanner's Salt Lake City Headquarters on March 19. Beginning at 4 p.m., the group will perform as part of a USU Research Landscapes special presentation. According to the event website, it aims to "highlight how research and art enhance each other." Read more here
Have a child aged 3 to 5? Introduce them to wildlife with the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge's Birds and Nests series
Geared toward young children and their guardians, Birds and Nests aims to introduce three to five-year-olds to nature and wildlife through stories, activities, and live animals. The next event is on March 26. Click here to learn more
Share stories of the salty waters with Great Salt Lake Hopeline all year
By calling 979-GSL-HOPE (979-475-4673) or visiting an upcycled phone booth, community members can share their stories and interact with the sounds of Great Salt Lake. According to Wake the Great Salt Lake, collected voicemails will be used for future projects — the hotline aims to start lake-focused dialogue and spark hope for the struggling body of water. A reception for the project will be held at Fisher Brewing on March 24 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees must be aged 21 or over. Learn more here
Apply for a Great Salt Lake research scholarship
Applications are open for Friends of Great Salt Lake's Doyle W. Stephens Research Program, which aims to support student researchers participating in lake-focused projects. The application is open until March 15 and will award winners with $2,000 for their projects. Click here for more details

Observe migrating swans in their natural habitats this March
As winter wraps up, birds will begin their journeys north for the warmer months. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said early March will be a prime time to observe migrating swans as they stop by Great Salt Lake. Read KSL NewsRadio's report here
Explore drawings of lake species in 'By a Thread'
Missed Artist Kellie Bornhoft's exhibit 'By a Thread'? Another opportunity to explore the interactive exhibit opens on March 4 at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. Bornhoft told Great Salt Lake Collaborative she wanted the work to make people more aware of the plants and animals that rely on the lake. The exhibit features illustrations of 64 species and invites viewers to interact with the sheer fabric they are printed on. View the exhibit from March 4 to April 23
Attend a "Watershed Stories" workshop with Friends of Great Salt Lake in April
Throughout April, Friends of Great Salt Lake will be involved in hosting free drawing and voice recording workshops, enabling participants to share memories and reflections about the Salt Lake Valley's waterways. Recordings will be featured later at the Seven Canyons Fountain, an upcoming installation at Liberty Park. More details on their website
Attend a watershed story workshop in April
In April, Artist Stefan Lesueur will present workshops meant to engage community members with the lake. Taking place April 10-12, participants will use sketchbooks to interact with waters in the valley. Per Wake the Great Salt Lake, the workshops will present a variety of mediums. More details here
Take a self-guided tour of the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve
The preserve covers 4,400 acres of wetland and upland habitat just outside of Layton. According to its website, some of the largest wildlife gatherings to be recorded have been viewed from the visitor center. The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve invites the public to download an audio tour to guide their visits. Current operating hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Learn more here.
